Witch hunt hell is over
A SOLDIER who was investigated by the Iraq Historic Abuse Team after being falsely accused of war crimes said its closure was “long overdue good news”.
Sgt Brian Wood said the allegations against him and other forces personnel – such as unlawful killing and mistreatment of prisoners – “just did not happen”.
Sgt Wood, of 1st Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, warned the Government had “big lessons to learn” from the failure of IHAT.
Its closure was announced on Friday after Phil Shiner, a lawyer in charge of many of the abuse cases, was struck off.
