Whales in new plight
ALMOST 250 more whales washed up in New Zealand yesterday as volunteers risked shark attacks, stingrays and neck- deep water to try and save them.
Dozens formed a human chain to stop whales that had earlier been refloated coming back ashore at Farewell Spit, South Island.
But a fresh pod of almost 250 arrived last night in the country’s worst stranding.
More than 300 original arrivals have died. It is thought they may have been driven ashore by sharks.
