Fury at tots asylum axe
A 50,000-NAME petition was handed to No10 yesterday urging Theresa May to rethink scrapping a scheme to bring child refugees to Britain.
It was delivered by Labour’s Lord Dubs, 84, a wartime child refugee from the Nazis in Czechoslovakia.
Britain is taking only 350 child r efugees after originally planning to bring in 3,000 lone youngsters.
Lord Dubs had won the pledge to take 3,000 by adding an amendment to the Immigration Act last year.
Archbishop of Canterbury the Most Rev Justin Welby said he was “saddened and shocked” by the scheme being axed.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said she feared that the scheme was providing opportunities for gangs of people traffickers.
