A CU­RI­OUS claim from BBC2’s SAS: Rogue War­riors host Ben Mac­in­tyre on the reg­i­ment’s ori­gins: “The story of how it came into ex­is­tence has been a closely guarded se­cret.

“Now, for the first time, the SAS has agreed to open up its archives and al­low me to re­veal the true story of their for­ma­tion.”

Cue a 1987 in­ter­view “hid­den away for decades” with founder David Stir­ling say­ing: “That band of vagabonds had to grasp what they had to do.”

Odd, then, that it is word for word what he said in that same in­ter­view aired by the His­tory Chan­nel’s SAS: The Orig­i­nals in 2008. This week’s Tip­ping Point An­swer of the Week award goes to…
