Appeal for hero Keith hits £704k

- By Karen Rockett

WELL- WISHERS have donated an incredible £ 704,000 to murdered policeman Keith Palmer’s family.

The JustGiving charity website originally set a £250,000 target to help the officer’s widow Michelle, 34, and their five-year-old daughter Amy.

By last night, 33,229 people across the world had donated – the biggest crowdfunding page JustGiving has ever had.

Yesterday Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced that PC Palmer will be remembered at the UK Police Memorial.

She said: “He will be remembered permanently at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire where the UK Police Memorial provides a lasting tribute to the sacrifices that all too many police officers have made.”

The Home Secretary said his sacrifice had “touched the lives of millions of people in this country and around the world” as she thanked the police for their “phenomenal” bravery and professionalism after the attack.

Writing for Police Oracle, she went on: “That example is best summed up by the actions of PC Keith Palmer. He gave his life in the line of duty, in order to keep others safe.

“So much has been said and written in tribute to PC Palmer – a husband and father who went to work on Wednesday morning and will never go home.

“PC Palmer had devoted his life to public service, first as a soldier in the Royal Artillery and then as a member of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.

“It is impossible to fully describe the debt of gratitude we owe to him. I want to express my heartfelt condolences to his family, his colleagues and his friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“I know there is a profound sense of loss, but his actions will never be forgotten.

Ms Rudd also gave her best wishes to the two injured officers who remain in hospital.
