Thug jailed for Gazza stairs kick

- By John Kelly

THE yob who booted Paul Gascoigne down a flight of stairs has been jailed.

Scaffolder Lewis Beard kicked Gazza, 50, in the small of his back as the troubled ex-England player argued at a hotel.

Beard, 27, of Ickenham, north- west London, was jailed for 23 weeks by Stratford magistrates after admitting assault. He must pay £7,800 compensation.

Judge Paul Clarke told him: “You must have known that kicking him in that cowardly fashion was extremely dangerous.”

The Sunday Mirror revealed in January that the attack left Gascoigne with a fractured skull. He had 11 stitches to his face and severe cuts to his arm.

The attack was at a hotel in Shoreditch, East London, where Gascoigne had been drinking heavily.

He later went into rehab, promising fans he would not let them down again in his battle with the bottle. STEVIE, a puppy who was born blind, has been given his own guide dog, fellow shih-tzu Max, at a dog rescue centre near Cardiff.
