Bardsley gloved-up for Spain
ENGLAND keeper Karen Bardsley hardly lifted a finger in the 6-0 rout of Scotland on Wednesday — but she will have her hands full against Spain in Breda tonight.
Mark Sampson’s Lionesses bid to take control of Euro 2017 Group D by beating the Spaniards, who also won their opener.
Bardsley said: “Watching the display against Scotland was pretty great – of all the supporters, I had the best view.
“The Spain game will be really competitive – they are very capable, and technically and tactically adept.”
It will be a step up from the demolition of the Scots, which saw Jodie Taylor grab a hat-trick, with Jordan Nobbs, Ellen White and Toni Duggan completing the scoring.
Former Manchester City forward Duggan is Barcelona-bound this summer after signing a two-year deal. And Bardsley added: “It’s a massive move, and I imagine she’s extra excited to play Spain now.”
The England camp has been busy studying Spain footage ahead of tonight’s crucial game – although it’s not all been football action.
Bardsley said: “Millie Bright has always got something to say about Love Island, which is set in Majorca. It’s a major topic in the camp.
“Every once in a while you’ll hear, ‘Oh my gosh, did you hear about this?’ – but frankly I don’t know what’s going on!”
