Busking gave me backbone

The People - - NEWS FEATURES & - By Amy Sharpe

X FACTOR hopeful Gregor Coleman has told how, as a busker trying to make the big time, he has faced some hairy moments. He says as well as being robbed and heckled, he’s come close to a number of punch-ups. Gregor, 24, got off to a shaky start on the show last night after Simon Cowell told him to return with a second song – but then sailed through to the next round. He revealed how he has spent the past two years busking in his hometown of Glasgow and across the country in a bid to crack the industry. “Busking can be quite scary,” he said. “I’ve been robbed. In Manchester, someone had just put a five pound note in, then someone came up and took it out. “There was a guy watching me singing so I shouted that someone had stolen money off me. The guy that was watching went and got my money back.” He added: “And then you get guys trying to start fights. “It’s just part of busking, the odd day when you’re gonna get heckled, or they don’t like you and they’re drunk and they want different songs.” But he says his experiences have given him a “backbone”. Now the tattoo fan is considering getting some X Factor inkings to mark his time on the show. “I don’t know if I’d get a Simon tattoo – if he becomes a bit of a friend then I might,” he said. “I’d let him pay for it though. “If Simon said, if you get me tattooed on you, you will win The X Factor, then I’d happily get his face tattooed on my face. I don’t mind.” Gregor – who used to be a backing singer in a band called Supernova which previously featured in line- ups with Peter Andre and previous X Factor contestant Rylan – added: “I don’t know if I’ll get Nicole’s face... she might find that a bit creepy.”
