A TOURIST was winched by he­li­copter from York Min­ster af­ter fall­ing ill.

The man be­came un­well on a view­ing plat­form of the 235ft cen­tral tower.

It is the high­est point of the mag­nif­i­cent cathe­dral and is reached by 275 steps.

York­shire Air Am­bu­lance called for help from the coast­guard to air­lift the man t o hos­pi­tal on Thurs­day. In 2008 a man in his 70s was air­lifted from the roof af­ter col­laps­ing.
