Tiny plot? Try fruit in a pot

-

IF space is limited or you don’t have a garden it is perfectly possible to grow fruit trees in a pot – if you choose Minarettes.

They grow like Totem poles up to 2.4m tall and bear fruit on short spurs along the length of the vertical stem rather than on long spreading branches.

Pear varieties are available – including the popular Conference, Concorde and early variety Beth – and nurserymen separate them into pollination groups so you can choose ones that flower at the same time so they cross-pollinate and produce plenty of fruit.

Make use of two space-saving plants by placing them on either side of a path and training them as an arch. Give copious amounts of food and water throughout the growing season and plan to repot them every two years to keep plants productive.
