Nutella in price hike
LOVERS of Nutella who are furious at its recipe change have now been hit just days later by a price rise for the chocolate spread.
The hike comes despite a 35 per cent fall in the cost of importing key ingredient hazelnuts this year, says trade paper The Grocer.
Italian makers Ferrero said its range faced “input pressures” – and UK supermarkets have now passed on the rise to customers.
Yesterday it emerged Morrisons is the latest, with a 1kg jar up 22p to £5.20.
The price in rivals Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s is £5.30, a 30p increase.
Ferrero said: “We are addressing these challenges with our retail partners.”
The firm was last week blasted by customers who noticed the product has more sugar and powdered skimmed milk. Ferrero said they’d notice no difference in taste and quality.
