Scandal of books sale
MILLIONS of taxpayerbought books are being flogged on the cheap by cash-strapped councils.
They end up on sites like Amazon after a wave of library closures caused by Tory austerity.
Latest figures show more than 470 have been axed while books held by surviving libraries have dropped by 14million. Nick Poole, of the Library Association, said: “The risk is the taxpayer is paying for books that are sold and no longer there for them to borrow.”
