£25k Soviet bomb sale

A SOVIET Cold War missile that can travel up to 3,000mph and destroy aircraft 40 miles away is up for auction in the UK.

The deactivated 2K11 Krug air defence weapon, which is the same size as a bus, is expected to fetch around £ 25,000. Built around 50 years ago, it is 10ft wide, nearly 30ft long and weighs a tonne.

It will go under the hammer at Summers Place Auctions in Billingshurst, West Sussex, this week.

The weapon, also known as an SA-4 Ganef, was used by the Soviet army during their war in Afghanistan in 1979 and 1980.

Auction house director Rupert van der Werff said: “The missile is an icon of the Cold War and we are pleased to be offering it as a piece of industrial art.”
