The Royal Mailed fist
ROYAL Mail is accused of cynically undercutting struggling post offices by offering cut-price deals to their business clients.
One sub-postmaster said: “Royal Mail offered my customers half price postage and to pick up their parcels. How is the post office to compete?”
Thousands of small outlets are in trouble, hit by Government cuts and falling business. Branches are down from 19,000 to 11,600.
Royal Mail, sold off five years ago, is separate from state-owned post offices.
Mark Baker, of the Communication Workers’ Union, says Royal Mail’s “cynical” moves are costing post offices vital business.
Royal Mail insisted: “We do not encourage customers to switch to Royal Mail account services.”
