The People - - LIFESTYLE -

PRIMARY pupils from poorer areas are four times more likely to be obese.

Statistics from the National Child Measurement Programme show that the overall proportion of severely obese Year 6 pupils has risen from 3.6 per cent in 2009-10 to 4.2 per cent in 2017-18.

And pupils from less affluent backgrounds are also more likely to stay overweight, risking type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease in the future.
