Bat spread and flut­ter

A BAT that flew face-first into fly-pa­per and got stuck was freed by res­cue cen­tre staff us­ing cot­ton buds cov­ered in but­ter.

The brown long-eared bat, weigh­ing just a third of an ounce, was found stressed, said the Oak and Fur­rows Wildlife Res­cue Cen­tre in Crick­lade, Wilts.

Af­ter the pain­stak­ing op­er­a­tion to free the crea­ture, carer Jess Ostler said: “He had a tiny bub­ble bath but was quite grumpy.”
