Star Letter

The People's Friend - - Soap -

Reading about the Queen making history with her Sapphire Jubilee, becoming the first British monarch to reign for sixty-five years, brought to mind a lovely couple I care for.

Alan and Irene Wood also celebrated a big milestone, having been married for sixty-five years. They were delighted to receive their second card from the Queen, the first being for their Diamond Wedding anniversary.

The couple have lived in and around Tamworth all their married life and have four wonderful children – Denise, Linda, Keith and Ian. They also have 11 grandchildren.

Alan is a long-serving member of the Royal British Legion and often goes on parade.

They truly are a remarkable couple. When I ask what their secret for a long, happy marriage is, Irene says, “It is all about give and take and just being there for each other.”

I am really blessed to call them my friends.

Ms J.W., Tamworth.
