Q. My lawn has put on a lot of growth with the mild winter. When should I start the first cut?
Mild winters often result in early grass growth, and on a good day we are tempted to get out the lawn mower. The first grass cut is traditionally the first week of April, but in recent years cutting has been possible at the beginning of March if the grass has been growing vigorously. However, if the ground is still wet, the mower may do more harm than good, so take it canny. Keep the blades high for the first cut and just take off the excess.
