Jayne Dyas, of the British Growers Association, said, “We have to import some produce, such as lettuce, courgettes and broccoli, during our winter months as our climate is too cold to grow such crops then. Many UK farmers have land or contracts with growers in Spain to supply fresh produce in winter. There are seasonal alternatives and, of course, frozen vegetables are also available.”
