The People's Friend - - Chat 55 -

I have no objection to chocolate Advent calendars as long as people remember that they are counting down to the coming of Christ, not of Christmas!

I used to love the little pictures when I was a kid. I swear they were more exciting than chocolate – I can still remember what they looked like.

I sent Advent colouring books to grandchildren. A Christmas colouring-in page every day.

Ask a child today what Christmas is about and they will say Santa Claus and lots of presents – parents don’t even tell them the Christmas story any more.

I like an Advent candle myself, but I know the children like chocolate ones. I have bought my grandchildren a puzzle one – a different game or project to do each day.
