The Story So Far

-

BETTY and VAL are recovering from their midnight encounter with horseman ALEXANDER GREY at the back of their holiday cottage. Though village opinion is against him due to his plans to develop the unspoilt bay, the women are pleased that next day the Australian apologises.

While Val takes her camera down to the shore, local KIT PELAGO tells Betty the story of Whealgrey tin mine and the inheritance handed down from SIMON GREY. He also tells her the love story behind the mine – how losing his sweetheart to his brother turned Simon into a recluse.

Val returns from snapping sea shells to say fisherman AIRCUT, who was nearby in his boat, wants to take them for a moonlit ride. They go, and Aircut tells tales of sea horses and mermaids. Afterwards he invites them to join in rehearsals with his folk singing group, the Shantymen.

Back on shore, Val is excited to hear a loud splash and see a large shape in the water. A dolphin, or one of the merfolk?

The folk singing is well received, and the women are praised by Alexander, who invites them to dine with him in Land’s End the next night. Betty pleads a cold, but to her dismay Val accepts!
