I enjoyed the recent article by Douglas Mcpherson celebrating 50 years of “Dad’s Army”.
Many of the scenes for the programme were filmed in Norfolk, and Bressingham Steam and Gardens, not far from where I live, is the official home of the Dad’s Army Appreciation Society collection.
The exhibition comprises a recreation of the fictional seaside town of Walmington-on-sea, including Jones’s butcher shop, the church hall, Frazer’s Funeral Parlour and the bank.
The Dad’s Army Museum is at Thetford, and the pictures here were taken beside the statue erected of Captain Mainwaring by the riverside in Thetford. One is of me and my husband, the other our daughter and grandson.
I love your magazine and have connections with Dundee myself, as my paternal grandmother was a jute worker in the city in the late 1800s.
