A TAKEOVER bid threat­ens the Prim­rose Line her­itage rail­way. Some lo­cals are against the pro­posal, in­clud­ing vol­un­teer BILLY BOSWELL and butcher SAM HERRIDGE. Sam has two sons. One works in the fam­ily busi­ness; the other, a bad lot, has been seen around lately.

To make things worse, the Prim­rose Line is be­ing tar­geted by van­dals and thieves. NI­COLA REN­TON’S son, DAVID, wants her to move to Canada with him, but she is torn. Af­ter meet­ing her child­hood love, JIM CON­NAUGHT, it’s clear there is still a spark be­tween them.

Ex-po­lice­man Jim has been left a cot­tage in the vil­lage by his old teacher, MISS GUR­DON, though he doesn’t know why.

Should he do it up and sell it, then move to Switzer­land to be with his fam­ily, or stay here where he was happy be­fore his fam­ily left?

Jim’s daugh­ter, LAURA, brings chil­dren EMILE and ADRI­ENNE to visit him while he does up the cot­tage and gar­den with Ni­cola’s help. Laura has had to leave hus­band MARTIN be­hind to run their Swiss ho­tel, but while in the UK still plans to visit an old boyfriend, SEAN BARRY, in Kent, much to Jim’s cha­grin . . .
