Fraudster claimed thousands
A MAN has been ordered to carry out 180 hours community service for claiming benefits worth more than £5,000 while working.
Ricardo Almeida (30), of Herlington, Orton Malborne, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on May 28.
He was also ordered to pay back the £5,229.89 he falsely claimed and £85 costs after pleading guilty to two charges of failing to notify the Department of Work and Pensions of his change of circumstances.
An investigation revealed that Almeida was overpaid £3,432.80 in housing benefit, £435.99 in council tax benefit and £1,361.10 in jobseekers’ allowance.
