Fraud­ster claimed thou­sands

A MAN has been or­dered to carry out 180 hours com­mu­nity ser­vice for claim­ing ben­e­fits worth more than £5,000 while work­ing.

Ri­cardo Almeida (30), of Her­ling­ton, Or­ton Mal­borne, Peter­bor­ough, ap­peared at Peter­bor­ough Mag­is­trates’ Court on May 28.

He was also or­dered to pay back the £5,229.89 he falsely claimed and £85 costs af­ter plead­ing guilty to two charges of fail­ing to no­tify the Depart­ment of Work and Pen­sions of his change of cir­cum­stances.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­vealed that Almeida was over­paid £3,432.80 in hous­ing ben­e­fit, £435.99 in coun­cil tax ben­e­fit and £1,361.10 in job­seek­ers’ al­lowance.
