Woman in crit­i­cal con­di­tion fol­low­ing van col­li­sion

A WOMAN is in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion in hos­pi­tal af­ter her van left the road and col­lided with a tree.

The col­li­sion hap­pened at around 7.20am on May 31 off Thor­ney Dyke, Thor­ney, around 400 me­tres from its junc­tion with Old Knarr Fen Road.

Emer­gency ser­vices rushed to the scene in­clud­ing the air am­bu­lance which was scram­bled from its base at RAF Wy­ton.

Fire­fight­ers ar­rived around 10 min­utes later and used hy­draulic equip­ment to re­lease a 38-year-old woman from the Ford Tran­sit Con- nect van.

The woman was pro­vided with crit­i­cal care at the scene by Dr John Scott and Dan Cody of the emer­gency med­i­cal char­ity Mag­pas, be­fore be­ing flown to Ad­den­brooke’s Hos­pi­tal in Cam­bridge.

Po­lice said the woman re­mains in a crit­i­cal but sta­ble con­di­tion at hos­pi­tal.

A Mag­pas spokes­woman said: “It is es­sen­tial that ex­pert med­i­cal care is on hand to make sure the pa­tient re­ceives the right treat­ment at the scene and is trans­ferred to the right hos­pi­tal.”
