YOUR SHOUT... On the Cathedral Square fountains

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - News Breif -

PAULINE Steel (42), from Fairfield Road, Fletton, had mixed feelings about the fountains.

She said: “i think they are lovely for children. as soon as my three saw them, they were mesmerised. They also keep the pigeons away.

“But i would have liked a memorial here and old-fashioned fountains. if it attracts people, though, it’s more money in the shops’ pockets.”

Ronald Jones (82), from Farcet, was not won over. He said: “it’s a waste of money. Before, you had the flowers and people sitting round, but now you sit in a big circle and you are not near anybody.

“They are just copying other places like Bourne. if there’s any wind, there could be problems.”

Janine Webster (49) and her daughter Florence (18) were visiting from Grantham and were surprised to see the water jets. Janine said: “They will be very nice on a hot day and look quite modern. little kids seem to like them, but i’ve already seen one boy get completely soaked. it’s a novelty.” Florence said: “it’s a nice feature for the summer.”

Sukhjit Singh (57), from alexander Road, new England, said it was time the square had a revamp. He said: “it will be nice in the summer time and is good to have something to watch.”
