District coun­cil to cel­e­brate all things green at awards evening

HUNT­ING­DON­SHIRE Distrit Coun­cil are mark­ing World En­vi­ron­ment Day on Satur­day.

The coun­cil, which cov­ers Yax­ley, Sawtry, Farcet and Hunt­ing­don, will be hold­ing its first ever Hunt­ing­don­shire Green Heart Com­mu­nity Awards.

Com­mu­nity groups, schools, busi­nesses and in­di­vid­u­als across the county have been re­turn­ing their en­try forms to let the coun­cil know about the en­vi­ron­men­tal work that has been tak­ing place in the district.

The win­ners will be an­nounced at an awards cer­e­mony on Satur­day night in St Ives where they will re­ceive a tro­phy and £250 for their next green project.

Councillor Jonathan Gray, ex­ec­u­tive councillor for en­vi­ron­ment, said: “World En­vi­ron­ment Day is a day that stim­u­lates aware­ness.

“It is go­ing to be a great event and I would like to en­cour­age res­i­dents to find out more about what they can do to help the district’s en­vi­ron­ment.”
