Councillor reaches 40-year mile­stone

A LONG-SERV­ING councillor has been pre­sented with a framed cer­tifi­cate in recog­ni­tion of hav­ing achieved 40 years’ un­bro­ken ser­vice as a district councillor. Councillor Mike New­man was given the award at the re­cent an­nual meet­ing of Hunt­ing­don­shire District Coun­cil. He was elected to the for­mer St Ives Ru­ral District Coun­cil in 1970 as well as be­ing a mem­ber of Pi­d­l­ey­cum-Fen­ton Parish Coun­cil and a founder mem­ber of Hunt­ing­don­shire District Coun­cil’s cabi­net. Chair­man of the district coun­cil from 1986 to 1988, he has also served as a vice chair­man and as chair­man on var­i­ous com­mit­tees.
