Two medals for City girl at Na­tional event

PETER­BOR­OUGH City Row­ing Club mem­ber Philippa Neill was in ex­cel­lent form at the Na­tional Schools Re­gatta at the week­end.

Held at the Na­tional Water­sports Cen­tre in Not­ting­ham, the event at­tracts some of the top row­ers in the coun­try and Neill had to be close to her best to claim a bronze medal on Satur­day and a sil­ver medal on Sun­day.

Af­ter an im­pres­sive dis­play at the Mu­nich Re­gatta last month, Neill took the bronze medal in the dou­ble sculls with GB part­ner Beth Astell on Satur­day be­fore go­ing one bet­ter the fol­low­ing day.

Neill and Astell teamed up with two row­ers from St Neots for the cox­less fours and took sil­ver af­ter win­ning a fierce bat­tle with City of Ox­ford, who they beat by two lengths.

The gold medal went to the Head­ing­ton School crew con­tain­ing the top two row­ers in the coun­try.

Next week­end Neill will be team­ing up with some of the best ju­nior row­ers in the coun­try to com­pete at The Metropoli­tan Re­gatta at the Olympic venue Dor­ney Lake. She will com­pete in a cox­less four and an eight.
