HE was born in Crox­teth, Liver­pool, in Oc­to­ber 1985.

Made his Premier League de­but in Au­gust 2002 for Ever­ton be­fore join­ing Manch­ester United in 2004 for £25 mil­lion.

He be­came Eng­land’s youngest ever player in 2003 when he took to the field against Aus­tralia aged just 17, this record was later beaten by Theo Wal­cott.

He has scored 25 goals in 60 caps for Eng­land and at just 24 years of age, he is on tar­get to beat Bobby Charl­ton’s record of 49.

His in­ter­na­tional low point came in the 2006 World Cup when he was sent off in the quar­ter-fi­nal match with Por­tu­gal for al­legedly stamp­ing on Ri­cardo Car­valho.
