Problem with advertising

RE: Letter: Meerkats just don’t make good pets, ET, June 1

This is the problem when companies use animals in their advertising. When Andrex started using Labradors everybody had to have one, likewise when Dulux used the Old English Sheepdog everybody had to have a “Dulux Dog”. When the Ninja Turtles were at their peak everybody had to have a turtle as a pet and then found out how vicious they are and dumped them in our rivers. People just do not consider the implications of buying fashionable or topical pets just because they are the latest “must have” commodity. Only it isn’t merely a commodity, it is a living thing which should be looked after responsibly accordingly. It was onloy a matter of time before Meerkats became the latest “must have” accessory.
