Two ar­rests af­ter raid on city firm

A MAN and a woman have been ar­rested in con­nec­tion with an armed rob­bery in Peter­bor­ough.

The 48-year-old man and the 49year-old woman, both from Corby, were ar­rested in Corby yes­ter­day af­ter­noon, af­ter a raid at sat nav sales firm GPSK Ltd in Pa­pyrus Road in Wer­ring­ton on Wed­nes­day.

Both are be­ing held on sus­pi­cion of rob­bery at Thorpe Wood Po­lice Sta­tion, Peter­bor­ough.

DCI Jon Hutchinson said: “It is a sig­nif­i­cant break­through in our in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

“We are con­tin­u­ing to fol­low up other lines of en­quiries.”

A group of seven peo­ple stormed through the doors of the busi­ness unit at around 5.50pm, armed with crow­bars and axes.

Po­lice be­lieve the rob­bers re­alised they were out of their depth when they were con­fronted by mem­bers of staff and made off in a white Vaux­hall van. No one was in­jured but staff were left shaken.

The van was later found dumped in Mor­risons car park in Uff­in­g­ton Road, Stam­ford.

An­other ve­hi­cle, a white Mercedes 7.5 tonne lorry was aban­doned at the scene.

DCI Hutchinson be­lieves the bala­clava-clad rob­bers took time to plan the rob­bery.

He cur­rently has a team of 15 of­fi­cers work­ing on the case, trawl­ing through CCTV and foren­sic ev­i­dence from the scene. They are also work­ing with neigh­bour­ing po­lice forces in­clud­ing Northamp­ton and Es­sex.

A 20-year-old man from Spald­ing and a 21-year-old man from Stam­ford – ar­rested in Stam­ford on sus­pi­cion of rob­bery on Wed­nes­day in con­nec­tion with the raid – have been bailed un­til June 14.
