Two arrests after raid on city firm
A MAN and a woman have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Peterborough.
The 48-year-old man and the 49year-old woman, both from Corby, were arrested in Corby yesterday afternoon, after a raid at sat nav sales firm GPSK Ltd in Papyrus Road in Werrington on Wednesday.
Both are being held on suspicion of robbery at Thorpe Wood Police Station, Peterborough.
DCI Jon Hutchinson said: “It is a significant breakthrough in our investigation.
“We are continuing to follow up other lines of enquiries.”
A group of seven people stormed through the doors of the business unit at around 5.50pm, armed with crowbars and axes.
Police believe the robbers realised they were out of their depth when they were confronted by members of staff and made off in a white Vauxhall van. No one was injured but staff were left shaken.
The van was later found dumped in Morrisons car park in Uffington Road, Stamford.
Another vehicle, a white Mercedes 7.5 tonne lorry was abandoned at the scene.
DCI Hutchinson believes the balaclava-clad robbers took time to plan the robbery.
He currently has a team of 15 officers working on the case, trawling through CCTV and forensic evidence from the scene. They are also working with neighbouring police forces including Northampton and Essex.
Contact police on 0345 456 456 4 with any information.
A 20-year-old man from Spalding and a 21-year-old man from Stamford – arrested in Stamford on suspicion of robbery on Wednesday in connection with the raid – have been bailed until June 14.
