Northants ladies share the spoils in opening fixture
THERE were mixed fortunes for the Northants Women’s Bowling Federation teams in their opening inter-county championship matches of the season away to North Essex.
Although the Donald Steward team lost by only five shots (132-137), they picked up only three of the 22 points on offer - a 17-shot win for the rink of Joan Padley and a tie for Linda Darani’s quartet.
The scoreline in the Silver Jubilee Vase was equally tight, but this time Northants took the verdict by four shots (133-129) and came away with 18 points, courtesy of wins for the rinks of Margaret Linnell, Joan Robinson, Maureen Montgomery and Hazel Bass.
