WHILE walking past Cathedral Square I could not help notice the manner with which the new fountains were being used. While I can appreciate the attraction to the children I really do not think that this was what they were intended for. I was under the impression it was a water feature not a water play park.

WHILE walking past Cathedral Square I could not help notice the manner with which the new fountains were being used.

While I can appreciate the attraction to the children I really do not think that this was what they were intended for. I was under the impression it was a water feature not a water play park.

I was outside the shoe shop in a suit on my way to an appointment when I was splashed by water from two over enthusiastic children chasing each other with cups full of water they had presumably had their milk shakes in previously.

I do not think that the health and safety implications have been thought through properly. Even though the surface is supposedly non slip it is still hard and a child running and slipping could sustain a serious injury, unlike the water play area in Bretton which has a special surface.

I went into the shoe shop before continuing to my appointment only to notice the wet floor so I imagine the other shops were the same. Some of the children were soaked to the skin, how they were to dry themselves with no toilet facilities is also a wonder.

Some of the people sitting on the new seating around the fountains were complaining about getting splashed and I noticed several of them moving away.

All in all this is a disaster waiting to happen. I shall most definitely be avoiding the square from now on and I would be interested in just how many people sue the council through slips, trips and falls due to the fountains.
