New mayor to be sworn in at ser­vice

THE city’s new mayor will of­fi­cially be in­stalled at the week­end with a pro­ces­sion through the city cen­tre.

Councillor Keith Sharp, who rep­re­sents the North Ward of the city, will of­fi­cially be given the ti­tle on Sun­day, June 13.

Cllr Sharp will be joined by city dig­ni­taries and VIPs on a pro­ces­sion from the Town Hall in Bridge Street to the Cathe­dral.

The pro­ces­sion will start at 3.10pm and fin­ish at 3.30pm, where a spe­cial ser­vice will be car­ried out by the Dean of Peter­bor­ough, the Very Reverend Charles Tay­lor.

The ser­vice will be fol­lowed by af­ter­noon tea. Mem­bers of the pub­lic are in­vited to at­tend.

Guests will in­clude rep­re­sen­ta­tives of neigh­bour­ing lo­cal au­thor­i­ties, Freemen of the City and past may­ors of Peter­bor­ough and city coun­cil­lors and of­fi­cers.

Res­i­dents will be able to meet Cllr Sharp, May­oress Doris Marchant and Deputy Mayor and con­sort, Councillor Bella Salt­marsh and her hus­band Nor­man Salt­marsh at Peter­bor­ough Town Hall on Thurs­day, June 17, when a spe­cial af­ter­noon tea will be served. The event will run from 2pm un­til 4pm.
