New mayor to be sworn in at service
THE city’s new mayor will officially be installed at the weekend with a procession through the city centre.
Councillor Keith Sharp, who represents the North Ward of the city, will officially be given the title on Sunday, June 13.
Cllr Sharp will be joined by city dignitaries and VIPs on a procession from the Town Hall in Bridge Street to the Cathedral.
The procession will start at 3.10pm and finish at 3.30pm, where a special service will be carried out by the Dean of Peterborough, the Very Reverend Charles Taylor.
The service will be followed by afternoon tea. Members of the public are invited to attend.
Guests will include representatives of neighbouring local authorities, Freemen of the City and past mayors of Peterborough and city councillors and officers.
Residents will be able to meet Cllr Sharp, Mayoress Doris Marchant and Deputy Mayor and consort, Councillor Bella Saltmarsh and her husband Norman Saltmarsh at Peterborough Town Hall on Thursday, June 17, when a special afternoon tea will be served. The event will run from 2pm until 4pm.
