Young poet ti­tle is up for grabs

BUD­DING po­ets and as­pir­ing rap­pers are be­ing urged to en­ter a com­pe­ti­tion to find the best young spo­ken word per­form­ers in the city.

The 2010 Young Poet and Youth Lau­re­ate com­pe­ti­tions have been launched in the city.

The Young Poet com­pe­ti­tion is for chil­dren aged seven to 11. They need to cre­ate a poem on the theme of “A Jour­ney into Space”.

Po­ets and rap artists en­ter­ing the Youth Lau­re­ate com­pe­ti­tion should be aged 12 to 18 years. They need to sub­mit a poem or rap about “The Un­ex­plained”.

Po­ems and raps need to be no more than 20 lines and the clos­ing date for both com­pe­ti­tions is June 27.

Short­listed acts will be in­vited to per­form at a grand fi­nal on July 13 in front of an ex­pert judg­ing panel.
