City deserves more government jobs

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your -

A billion pounds is a huge figure. That is what some estimates say the work on several key city projects will require in terms of investment.

For investors to put forward huge sums of money the city needs to give them confidence that it can provide the right opportunities.

The first priority must be jobs creation. Peterborough has a growing population, not least because new business has attracted residents and also partly because of migration.

What the city has got is a robust economy that is moving out of the recession more effectively than many.

Thousands of civil service jobs are to move out of London, and Peterborough is perfectly placed to host many of these.

Excellent transport links, housing opportunities and real momentum behind the delivery of the new university, not to mention one of the best hospitals in Europe about to open its doors.

Government jobs would give a turbo boost to many of the city’s ambitious plans.

The time is right to open the door wider for investors, and the city has a great deal going for it.

But providing a clear opportunity to investors also means getting the city behind plans.

Ensuring the people of the city have their own opportunity to influence the shape of things to come is also vital.
