Life on M.A.R.S Rescue
IF the first six months of the M.A.R.S Rescue operation is anything to go by, Steve Dolby’s new venture is sure to be successful.
An independant operation based at two separate locations, in Peterborough and Spalding, with the head office located on the side of the main Frank Perkins Parkway in Peterborough, not only servicing the Eastern region, but also providing a national coverage with their network of operators located across the UK.
Whether it be a motorcycle, car, van, minibus or HGV, the M.A.R.S. fleet of recovery trucks is capable of recovering them all.
Vehicle rescue and recovery is the business 24/7 365 days a year.
And such was the high level of enquiries for M.A.R.S services, that the new venture was away and running six months ahead of schedule and will soon be in a position to expand the operation and employ additional recovery technicians.
“I had planned to start things off in June, but we had a fantastic January - helped by the severe winter weather - which kicked off the business,” said director Steve.
“This allowed us to work towards accreditation - both PAS43 equipment and management procedures, as well as ISO9001. In addition, it gave us the opportunity to invest in additional vehicles, one of which has a six-tonne payload, the only one of its kind in the area.”
Steve bought his first vehicle in November 2009, a couple of months after he had formulated the idea of M.A.R.S.
The concept came after he had had to be recovered and felt the service given to him was “unsatisfactory.”
“I thought, at the time, ‘I can do better’,” he said. “I was looking for something challenging.”
Steve’s background was as a transport manager, with time also spent as a national sales manager.
Much of his vehicle recov- ery business comes via the internet, as well as city firms Monarch Automotive and Lovells, and other well-known local companies such as Nationwide Crash Repairs and Marshalls.
The firm provides fullytrained drivers, accredited by IVR (Institute of Vehicle Recovery), and can also offer a hire car service to enable continued mobility for their customers, even in the middle of the night.
Steve is currently working towards becoming a recovery agent for a national company and a number of other contracts pending before taking the next big steps forward.
“We provide a highly professional service that is second to none,” he said.
