signs, speed limit signs, road­works, lane clo­sures and speed cam­eras, yet still the mes­sage is fail­ing to get through to driv­ers on one of Peter­bor­ough’s busiest park­ways – SLOW DOWN.

Po­lice them­selves were stunned when in the first week the speed cam­eras on the A1139 Frank Perkins Park­way near the eye Round­about net­ted 1,000 ve­hi­cles ig­nor­ing the re­duced but well signed 40mph limit ev­ery day.

Not only was it front page news in the evening Tele­graph, but made the na­tional pa­pers, too.

yet two weeks on there has been no let-up in the num­bers get­ting caught out by the cam­eras – there to keep road-work­ers and mo­torists safe.

The num­bers give this stretch of road an un­en­vi­able statis­tic as one of the most lu­cra­tive and no­to­ri­ous speed­ing hotspots. But if this level of stu­pid­ity con­tin­ues, how long will it be be­fore there is an­other un­en­vi­able statis­tic in­volv­ing road deaths.
