Clamp down on parking in Wisbech
POLICE cars, fire engines and ambulances are being impeded by inconsiderate drivers who are parking illegally in Wisbech.
Police have vowed to clamp down on drivers causing obstructions when they park, who they say are “consistenly causing problems” for other road users, including the emergency services.
Two officers who have recently started working in Wisbech, Pc Adam Pearce and Pc Dave Stevens, said they will be patrolling the town centre with Pcsos, issuing £30 fixed penalty notices to any drivers committing an offence.
Pc Pearce said the actions of these drivers could be putting people’s lives at risk, with fire engines particularly suffering from inconsiderate parking.
He said: “On a number of occasions over the past few weeks fire engines have been unable to get close to addresses in the Market Place due to other vehicles blocking the road.
“The fire service have been conducting safety checks of various buildings but this kind of irresponsible parking could lead to a tragedy in the case of an emergency.
“We will also be targeting other areas including Hill Street, Blackfriars Road and the area around the Bingo Hall.
“If you are armong the majority of law abiding motorists then you have nothing to worry about. If not, you could be receiving a fixed penalty notice.”
Officers are urging members of the public who spot vehicles parked illegally or causing a dangerous obstruction to pass the information on to them, either on the beat or by calling Wisbech Police Station on 0345 456 4564.
