A missed opportunity in Cathedral Square

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your Telegraph -

I cycled into the city centre on Friday to have a look at the new, much-talked about fountains in cathedral Square.

I was expecting something aesthetic, and pleasing on the eye but found some sort of water park.

There were children stripped down to their underwear running through the water and screaming, Older children filling up water bottles and throwing water around, and young adults just getting soaked.

There was a lot of noise, and yes, it’s nice for everyone to have fun, but is this what was intended, because I can’t see it drawing people into town?

Most older people want to relax and enjoy the ambience, as they do abroad – not listen to noisy children. We get merry-go-rounds at christmas, and now a water park in the centre of Peterborough.

Also, how did it cost so much? The paving slabs aren’t anything special and the seating is ugly. It could have been so nice, what a wasted opportunity! JENNIFER MANN Cross Court
