Work starts to refurbish sluice

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Neighbourhood News -

WORK has started on the refurbishment of the Whittlesey Dog in a Doublet sluice. The structure, which was built in 1937, forms the upstream limit of the tidal defences for the River Nene and controls upstream river levels. Repair work will now be done by the Environment Agency on the north sluice so it remains in good working order for years to come. It is expected the lock will be closed to navigation for just over a week in October to allow for the replacement of the electrical operating system. The works are expected to be completed in January 2011.
