Crashes close roads

A DRIVER was air­lifted to hos­pi­tal and two oth­ers also in­jured af­ter two se­ri­ous crashes in Cam­bridgeshire.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the A1 be­tween Car­pen­ters Lodge and Wit­ter­ing junc­tions af­ter re­ceiv­ing re­ports of a car flip­ping over the crash bar­ri­ers at 5.40pm last night.

The driver was cut free from the wreck­age by fire crews.

A po­lice spokesman said: “They were air­lifted to hos­pi­tal out of the county and their in­juries are non life-threaten- ing.”

One lane of the north­bound and the en­tire south­bound car­riage­way were closed for three hours.

The A47 was also closed for sev­eral hours last night be­tween Guy­hirn and Wis­bech fol­low­ing a four-ve­hi­cle pileup at 6.20pm be­tween A1101 Elm High Road and A141 March Road.

The crash in­volved a lorry, a van and two cars and one ca­su­alty was taken to Ad­den­brooke’s Hos­pi­tal and an­other to Queen El­iz­a­beth Hos­pi­tal in King’s Lynn.
