It’s as easy as 1-2-3 at Oundle

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Sport -

IT was as easy as 1, 2, 3 for Robert Mason, Ted Banham and Ron Braxton at Oundle Golf Club’s Senior Open over the weekend.

Playing in the first group out at the event, Mason - a member at Thorney Lakes - shot a hole-in-one at the tricky third hole with Oundle member Banham following that straight up with a birdie two at the same hole.

And just for good measure Overstone Park man, Braxton, carded a three to give an interesting look to the card and provide newspaper headline writers with something to play with too.

Sadly for Mason, Banham and Braxton things went downhill from there with Robin Wright of Elton Furze the man coming through to take the title for the second year running with a score of 41 stableford points to beat C. Griffith of Woburn Golf Club by one point.

There was more luck for Oundle member Trevor Rouse, however, who shrugged off the effects of an overnight flight from Turkey to shoot his way round for 39 points to seal a win on countback over Peter Howard for third - two points ahead of Tony Cannon.
