Fry convinced England will go all the way

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - World Cup -

COME on England! Posh director of football Barry Fry is convinced Fabio Capello and Wayne Rooney can lead the country to World Cup glory.

Fry is as passionate about his country as he is about Posh and he believes he will be celebrating long and hard from the sumer right through to next May.

Fry said: “England win the World Cup and Posh win promotion from League One! What a double that would be for our city and I am certain it can happen.

“This will be England’s year. The manager has done an absolutely fantastic job and he is lucky enough to have Wayne Rooney who I believe will be regarded as the best player in the world after the tournament.

“There isn’t another country in the tournament who wouldn’t want Rooney in their side. He is so unlike certain other top stars in that he runs just as fast coming back as he does when he is going forward.

“Rooney will be the World Cup’s best player and he will be the top scorer as long as he remains disciplined and focussed.

“I believe he will be as Capello will demand it. There is no doubt that Capello is in charge and the players clearly look up to him and play for him.

“I was speaking to Frank Lampard the other day and he says the squad have never been as determined. They all firmly believe this is their year and I go along with that.

“You need luck and you need to peak at the right time. We have got our bad luck out of the way already with the injury to Rio Ferdinand.

“Spain and Brazil are the obvious dangers and I expect Ivory Coast to cause a few upsets. Argentina have the players, but their manager is as mad as me which should stop them winning it.

“This country is going to go through some hard times in the next couple of years because of the economic situation and there would be no better way to cheer everyone up than by England winning the World Cup.

“Trust me it’s going to happen.”

THE BEST: Fabio Capello.
