A TEENAGE girl was killed after the car she was travelling in careered out of control on a major road and flipped over on to its roof.

The 16-year-old victim, who has not been named, was thrown into the road from the red Honda Accord during the accident at 11.40am yesterday.

The tragedy occurred as the vehicle, which contained five people, headed towards Peterborough on the A15 when the smash happened close to the Maxey roundabout, just south of Market Deeping.

Medics arrived to find the girl had been thrown from the mangled wreckage of the car, which had landed on its roof on the side of the road. Two other passengers were trapped and had to be cut free.

Police closed the road and put di- versions in place as firefighters released the casualties in the car who were then treated by paramedics.

An ambulance spokeswoman said that paramedics had battled to save the girl but she died at the scene.

She said: “We arrived to find the car had rolled over and two people were trapped.

“We gave CPR to a 16-year-old girl at the scene and treated three other people for minor injuries before taking them to Peterborough District Hospital by land ambulance.

“The air ambulance had also been dispatched to the scene of the crash but it was not needed.”

The road was closed for more than four hours to allow accident experts from Cambridgeshire Po- lice to investigate the scene to try to find the cause. The road re-opened around 4pm.

Police have revealed that they believe there was only one vehicle involved in the incident.

They are appealing for any witnesses who saw the crash or saw the car in the minutes before the smash to come forward and help them with their enquiries.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “I am sorry to say one person, a girl, has suffered fatal injuries.

“Three other passengers have been taken to Peterborough District Hospital with minor injuries.”

Sergeant Steve Watson said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw the vehicle in the moments leading up to the collision. They can contact me on 0345 456 4564.”
