Play team go the extra mile

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Uk&world Update -

IF YOUR CHILD has spent time in hospital, chances are they may have come across Zoe Wilkinson and her colleagues.

Zoe is a play specialist and was part of a team that last year won the outstanding achievement award.

The aim of the team is to help make a child’s stay, or visit to hospital, more fun, and to help them through difficult times or unpleasant procedures.

They won the award for providing exceptional service for children throughout the trust, and going above and beyond what is expected.

The team raised money to buy new equipment and toys, are trialling a new service for children undergoing MRI scans, and were felt to have gone the extra mile.

Zoe said the team really appreciated their award.

“It was nice to get the recognition and it was nice that they notice what we do and pay attention to what we do,” she said. “Our job is emotionally and physically demanding for the staff, especially around Christmas, but it was nice to get that pat on the back. We do it for the children but it was nice for the staff to be recognised.”

Zoe believes that being nominated for an award can have a very positive impact.

“I think it means a great deal. We all do our day-to-day jobs and we enjoy our jobs but it’s nice to get that ‘thank you’,” she said.
