.....but not anymore at city pub
PATRIOTIC bar staff at a Peterborough pub were angry to find that their 6ft-wide England flag had been ripped down overnight.
Kevin Jeffery, bar manager at Solstice, in Northminster Road, was shocked to find the pub’s St George’s Cross flag placed outside the bar entrance left in shreds on the floor when he arrived at work yesterday morning.
Closer inspection of the pub’s CCTV system found that four men, one of whom was wearing an England shirt, were responsible for the act of vandalism at 12.30am, and were last seen heading into Angels lapdancing club.
Mr Jeffery said: “I really don’t think this kind of thing is within the spirit of the World Cup, literally all we’ve got left of the flag is a bit of the tail from the Three Lions printed on it.
“We’d love to see the people who did it caught and hopefully banned from all the pubs in the city centre.”
The pub has several screens both upstairs and downstairs that will be showing the World Cup, with a bumper crowd expected for England’s match with the USA tomorrow.
