Rare – but still a cause for concern

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your View -

THANKFULLY,

armed robbery is quite a rare crime in Peterborough.

But it is still worrying that for the fourth time in just a matter of weeks, a betting shop in the city has been targeted by raiders.

This time, in Oundle Road, it was knives but previously other weapons including a handgun has been used.

All this despite the fact that bookies are very security conscious and tend to have state-of-the-art CCTV systems.

Whether of not there is anything linking these crimes remains to be seen, but police need to redouble their efforts to stamp it out before it becomes the norm – and these establishments are seen by criminals as easy targets.

And nothing does that better than getting those responsible behind bars.
