Were you at street party?
STREET parties have a long history and are a great British tradition.
The celebratory events seem to have started in 1919, following the signing of The Treaty of Versailles at the end of the First World War.
They were held as ‘Peace Teas’ and centred round a special treat for children in those times of hardship and were quite formal sit down affairs.
Since then they were held whenever there was a momentous national event, for example The Queen’s coronation ceremony.
